Learning and Teaching

“...a Catholic Way of Being approach that values the ability to celebrate the uniqueness of each person as well as the collective support of all.

I  Am Because We Are…”

At Holy Spirit School, teaching and learning is driven by our belief in developing the whole person, therefore strong relationships are at the heart of learning. We act on the belief that all our interactions provide opportunities to shape a culture of inclusiveness at Holy Spirit school. We begin each year with small groups of students and class teachers spending quality time together, as they form connections in preparation for learning. Equally important are the partnerships formed with parents to support the child, therefore ‘meet and greets' are available early in the year and opportunities for progress ‘learning conversations’ continue through each week (mid-term 1 to early term 4). We continue to grow relationships throughout the year through a Catholic Way of Being approach that values the ability to celebrate the uniqueness of each person as well as the collective support of all. I  Am Because We Are…

We design learning from a strengths-based approach that values our students as learners and allows them to build on their prior knowledge, to deepen or formulate new knowledge and understandings.

Teachers knowing their students and how they learn best and their ability to determine the next steps in learning for all their students, are at the centre as we design, implement and measure the impact of our curriculum.

We aim to promote deeper learning in a stimulating environment that enables our students to be curious, creative and adaptive thinkers, critical researchers and effective collaborators. The use of technology assists our learners to develop their skills, knowledge and understandings and to collaborate with others and demonstrate their learning.

At Holy Spirit learning is structured as follows:

  • Daily Literacy and Numeracy focussed learning

  • An inquiry approach that integrates learning across the disciplines (The Capabilities, Science, Humanities and Health)

  • A specialist program that focuses on The Arts, Technologies and Physical Education

  • Our Catholic Way of Being program that nurtures emotional, social, spiritual and intellectual wellbeing and growth
